Presentation
Sparrow Pond and its future was presented by Lily Whitesell, Stormwater Outreach Specialist, Arlington County Environmental Services. Her Contact information is below.
Sparrow Pond is a low-lying area which is now a pond due to the embankment for the W&OD railroad now used for the Four Mile Run bike path.. Over time it silted up. Some time ago it was turned into a series of catchment ponds, but now they too have silted up. It is anticipated that the pond will be restored to a more effective version of catchment ponds, from which silt can be more easily removed as it accumulates, over the next couple of years.
The project is in the design stage. The pond and its future will be discussed at a series of meetings. The first public meeting is Thursday, March 14 at 6:30 pm, Carlin Hall, 5711 4th St. S, Arlington, VA.
