Report from Barcroft’s Form Based Code Advisory Working Group (FBC AWG) Representative, Keith Fred, “Columbia Pike Ground Level Retail Study Update”
Concerns about the lack of variety of the businesses occupying the ground floor of so many of Columbia Pike’s new buildings have prompted the initiation of a study by the County to examine how best to encourage a wide variety of businesses at street level. (Please see this working group’s web page.) Market rate rents are high in these new spaces, forming a barrier to many businesses that would enhance the experience of residents. There will be a “community engagement” opportunity in a few months. The study results will inform planning commission action and perhaps zoning changes through Board action.
The plan is to install a Commemorative Bench on grounds later this spring. The Board is evaluating a proposal now.
Program
The Complete Vaccination Committee, Helping every Arlingtonian get Vaccinated. Presenter: Bryna Helfer, Assistant County Manager & Director of Communication and Public Engagement
Ms Helfer discussed some reasons expressed by people who have “vaccine hesitancy.” Arlington wants every resident to become vaccinated (status here), but it’s stressed that vaccination is still “one level of protection” along with social distancing. There are multiple sources for several types of vaccine today, and procedures may vary between County, state, Federal, and volunteer organizations. There’s been progress on testing. In her answers to questions in this meeting, Ms Helfer noted that immunity from Covid by the vaccinated has so far persisted for six months. If you haven’t yet, sign up with Vaccinate Virginia. Check the CVC site for info on the 4/10 Day of Action, and for a wealth of valuable information on how to get vaccinated. Call the COVID hotline at 703-228-7999 if you have any questions about your vaccination registration, symptoms, testing, or anything else COVID related.
Meeting adjourned approximately 8:30.
